"Ports" and the pregnant girls

Well, looking from a biological perspective...
Pregnancy could be for a variety of different reasons. The only one I can think of now is to try to culminate stem cells somehow? The ports would be used to feed meds straight into the person, and therefore, the baby. Perhaps it is the baby they are really experimenting on here. But since the port is in the back...which seems to be an odd place, you would think spine fluid? Extracting it? I hope we're not going to see some type of trait positive storyline here, been there done that.
